About

This training seminar in Astana starts series of trainings for members of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) against torture aimed to increase the capacity of NPM members throughout the country, as well as to raise awareness of relevant government structures on the main principles of NPM functioning in practice. Participants will study international and national legal framework, best practices of NPMs in other countries and discuss the key challenges in fulfilling monitoring activities in Kazakhstan.

The training seminar in Astana will be followed by similar events in Almaty (Southern Kazakhstan), Ust-Kamenogorsk (Eastern Kazakhstan) and Aktobe (Western Kazakhstan).

The series of trainings is a part of Centre’s long-term efforts in establishing and promoting NPM and the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against torture in Kazakhstan.
