About

The OSCE Programme Office in Astana at a request and in partnership with the Investment and Development Ministry, the International Maritime Organization and the Zhayik-Caspian Aarhus Centre plans to undertake an awareness raising training seminar on the pillars of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, known as the MARPOL Convention, ratified by Kazakhstan in 2003.

It is expected that some 35 representatives from the environment protection authorities, the oil and gas companies and the environmental civil society activists will participate in the training to discuss international standards and requirements, associated with the oil and other poison substances leakage to the sea form the ships, which inevitably affects the marine flora and fauna.

The activity constitutes an important part of the Office’s Unified Budget activities aiming at promoting environmental security and sustainable economic development and corresponds to the OSCE’s Environmental Security Initiative priorities in the Caspian Sea region.
