The public hearings on the Supreme Court’s Decree on “Application of the legislation on protection of honour, dignity and business reputation in the judicial practice” will be supported by the Office in co-operation with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, USAID, the Eurasia Foundation for Central Asia, and the International Fund for Protection Freedom of Speech Adil Soz. Some 40 Supreme and oblast Court judges, journalists, and media experts will overview the current court practice on defamation-related cases, discuss national legislation and its compliance with international standards and discuss the recommendations to the Supreme Court’s draft decree.     

The event is in line with the Office’s activities aimed at promoting media freedom and freedom of expression in line with the OSCE principles and commitments.
