About

This two day roundtable builds on previous public discussions and expert consultations on draft Criminal Procedure Code, which is presently is being considered by Mazhilis (lower chamber) of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. The roundtable will particularly focus on such topical issues of current criminal procedure reform as simplification of pre-trial procedures, strengthening legal safeguards for the accused persons, legal guarantees and overall role of defenders and legal representatives.
The event will bring together high level government officials, including those from the Presidential Administration, the Constitutional Council and the Supreme Court, MPs, representatives of NGOs, academia, advocates, local and international experts from Germany and Latvia.
