About

Some 40 parliamentarians, high-level representatives of the National Security Committee, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Court, Ministries of the Interior, Justice, Education and Science, international and national experts, and academics will participate in an one-day roundtable meeting on preventing and countering violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism.

Participants will analyze the factors underlying violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism and the ways to effectively address this threat.

They will discuss the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters with a particular focus on their role with ISIS, use of the Internet for terrorist purposes, after-action analysis and lessons-learnt from a law-enforcement perspective on recent terrorist attacks in Paris, and countering propaganda of violent extremist groups amongst young people with due respect for human rights and the rule of law.

The seminar will be led by two experts from the Netherlands and an expert from Italy.

The event is part of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana's activities to enhance security, increase accountability, and assist the host country in its efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism.
