From 11 to 13 December the Centre, in co-operation with its partners, will hold 3 expert meetings in the Mazhilis, the lower chamber of the Parliament. On 11 December, the meeting will be devoted to the issue of abolition of the initiation of criminal case – special stage in the criminal process that remained in Kazakhstan's legislation from Soviet times. On 12 December, the meeting will be focused on early or conditional release from detention – a specific institution of the criminal-executive legislation. On 13 December, the meeting will look at the issue of expansion of judicial control in criminal proceedings.
These tailor-made meetings will help the disscussion on reform of criminal procedure and penitentiary legislation through sharing international best practices and expert recommendations.
The event will bring together members of parliamentary working groups, government officials, representatives of NGOs, local and international experts from the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
