About

An OSCE-supported training-of-trainers course on profiling techniques for police officers will take place from 1 to 3 November 2017 in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.

Some 30 mid-level police officers and instructors of the Karaganda Police Academy of the Interior Ministry will participate in this three-day training to learn about psychological techniques used by law enforcement to better understand a person’s verbal and non-verbal behaviour and identify potential criminals during mass events.

The initiative will focus on psychological profiling, including identifying the elements of risk profiles, crowd mentality and psychological methods of influencing an aggressive crowd, lie detection techniques using the behavioural signs of a suspected person and drills to improve visual memory, concentration and division of attention. Experts will also present ways to use different risk indicators depending on the scope of work at mass events. A practical exercise will complement the training course.

The seminar will be led by experts from the Association of Psychologists and Behavioural Therapists of Kazakhstan.

The event is part of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana’s activities to enhance security, increase accountability, and promote best practices in security at large-scale events.
